How To Find The Best Shoes For Standing All Day. We Got You Covered!

When it comes to being out and about all day, you can bet that your feet will start to ache and become sore the next day. Even worse, you go about doing it every single day, and over time, it can really take a toll on your foot’s health. Not only that, but it also increases your chances of getting injured, with ones like plantar fasciitis and tendonitis being common place.

That said, one reason that your feet might be hurting so badly is not just due to standing around all day, but also wearing the wrong kind of shoes. Little did you know that the type of shoes you wear can really make a difference in terms of keeping your feet stable and comfortable over long periods of time. Hence, those high-arched high heels or low-padded sandals certainly will not make your feet feel good at the end of the day.

It is a good idea, then, to find the right pair of shoes that will reduce the pain. You might ask yourself, though, just what are the best shoes for standing all day? We are here to help! Learn more in this article on how to find the best shoes for the occasion, as well as see some of our top suggestions to get you started. Soon enough, you will be back to comfort in no time.

What are we waiting for? Let’s begin!

Things to consider before purchasing shoes for all-day wear

Granted, no good shoe is purchased without having done some research beforehand. In other words, before you go into your local shoe store, it is important that you figure out just what you need to get. If you are not sure, then here are some of the most crucial aspects to look into for your shoe-searching experience:

1. Arch support.

First things first, you will need to know just what type of foot arch you have. Not every foot is the same, especially when it comes to the shape and curve of it. From high to medium to low arches, each has their own specifically-designed shoe to help you feel supported and more likely to hold your ground even after long hours of standing in place. Your feet will thank you for it!

2. Insoles.

Aside from finding the right shoe that can offer you good arch support, it might be necessary to take it to another level and consider getting insoles. This is a way to add extra cushion and balance to your feet, especially if the shoes you purchase do not have enough to begin with. Once again, insoles are similar to shoes in that they operate based on high, medium, or low arches, so there is even more to look into for that.

For some tips on how to find the best insoles for you, we got you covered in my previous article!

3. Material.

While the other two points above refer to your own personal feet, it is also imperative to look outside of that scope and to the actual shoe itself, specifically that of its material. From leather to synthetic to rubber, each type is made from distinctive properties that offer a combination of flexibility, durability, and ultimately comfort.

For instance, leather is thought to be the most comfortable out of the three; however, it is easily subject to wear and tear over time, especially if exposed to water. On the other hand, synthetic and rubber shoes can offer more flexibility and support. Either way, it depends on what you need!

Things you can do to alleviate pain of standing all day

Granted, although having a good pair of shoes is useful, it also helps to change, or otherwise adjust your daily lifestyle to prevent foot pain from happening, let alone get worse. It might be all too easy just to stay with what you know, but by pushing yourself out of that comfort zone, it can be worthwhile in the end. With that being said, you can take measures to combat it, as means of alleviating the pain. Here, we propose just a few solid tips to help you get on your way to a more comfortable standing experience:

1. Take breaks.

Especially if you are on your feet for even more than an hour or two in a day, it helps to actually take breaks by sitting down. Taking a seat allows your body to shift the gravitational pressure from your feet to elsewhere, so that your feet do not take all of the burden on the impact.

Plus, sitting down from time to time can help the muscles in your legs relax, as well as your joints remain flexible, since standing for long periods of time can really tense up those areas. It is not only beneficial for your feet, but also the rest of your body!

2. Do small exercises.

Although you might think that more exercise will equal more foot pain, we assure you that this is not the case. In fact, doing little workouts such as standing on one foot and lifting the other in a “marching style” can be worth your time, since it not only gives temporary relief to the foot off the ground, but also warms up the rest of your body especially if it is stiff.

In addition, you can try massaging your feet once you take a break and sit down (see point #1). Using your hands and fingers, apply pressure to the balls of your feet, your arches, and your heels, working them until they relax. You will notice a huge difference afterwards!

3. Switch out shoes.

Believe it or not, switching out shoes within a day can be beneficial to your feet: often times, wearing the same pair every day can cause the shoe to wear down in certain places, such as the heel, which then gives less support once you start to move again. Hence, bringing an extra pair to work and changing them at mid-day can not only slow down the wear and tear of the other shoe, but also reinvigorate you to get back into work!

New Balance’s training shoe turned out to be a pleasant wearing experience: I enjoyed the absorbent crash-pad heel, as well as the midsole and outsole supports that really made walking and standing not a problem. My only gripe about this particular shoe is that it can be a bit too narrow in design, which for me already have narrow feet was still a struggle to squeeze into.
